This policy explains how Dekar collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Dekar mobile app, website, and related services (the “Services”).
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address, display name, profile image, and identifiers supplied by Google, Apple, or our email sign-in provider.
- People and celebration information: names, relationships, birthdays, preferences, notes, gift ideas, charity choices, messages, and care plans you choose to add.
- Circle activity: Smara Circle membership, questions, answers, invitations, service activities, and participation.
- Technical information: device, app version, authentication events, security logs, and diagnostic data needed to keep the Services reliable and secure.
- Notification choices: reminder settings and, if enabled, a device notification token.
- Contacts you import: if you choose to import birthdays, Dekar reads only the name and birthday of contacts that have a birthday saved, and only the ones you select. It does not read phone numbers, email addresses, or any other field, and it does not upload your address book.
How we use information
We use information to provide reminders and account sync; show information to people you intentionally share it with; operate circles and service activities; prevent abuse; provide support; improve reliability; and meet legal obligations. Dekar does not sell personal data or use private celebration information for behavioral advertising.
Reminders and message drafts
Birthday reminders are scheduled on your own device and are delivered by your operating system. Message drafts are assembled on your device from information you already supplied — a name, a stated celebration preference, and an age only when the birth year is known and shared. Your private notes are never used in a draft. Dekar does not send messages on your behalf: you edit the draft and choose where to send it.
Sharing and service providers
Information is shared with other Dekar members only according to the circle and visibility choices you make. We may use trusted providers for hosting, authentication, email, notifications, diagnostics, and app distribution. Google and Apple process sign-in under their own policies. Charity, retailer, or government links open an external service; anything you submit there is governed by that service’s policy.
Retention and security
Account data is kept while your account is active. When you delete your account, Dekar removes your active account and associated user records. Limited security records or provider backups may remain temporarily where required for fraud prevention, legal obligations, or routine backup aging. We use access controls, encrypted connections, and database policies, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Your choices
You can edit your information, change reminders, leave circles, and delete your account in the app. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, export, restrict, or object to processing of personal information. Contact us to make a request.
Age and international use
Dekar is not directed to children under 13, or the higher minimum age required in a user’s country. Information may be processed in countries where our service providers operate, subject to appropriate protections and applicable law.
Changes and contact
